Volunteer

Volunteering with Scouts is a rewarding way to support young people, give back to your local community and be part of something positive. Across Leatherhead District, volunteers help young people gain skills for life through fun, adventure and teamwork.

You do not need any previous Scouting experience. Whether you can help regularly or just occasionally, there are roles to suit different interests, skills and time commitments.

Ways to volunteer

There are two main ways to get involved with volunteering in Scouts. Both make a real difference and are fully supported with training and guidance.

Young Leaders (14–18)

The Young Leader Programme is for young people aged 14 to 18 who want to support younger sections while developing leadership and practical skills of their own.

Young Leaders:

  • Help run activities with younger sections
  • Build confidence, communication and teamwork skills
  • Work towards recognised awards
  • Gain experience that supports education and future careers

Adult volunteering (18+)

Adult volunteers support Scouting in many different ways, from helping at weekly meetings to taking on leadership, support or trustee roles.

Adult volunteers:

  • Support young people to learn and have fun
  • Choose roles that fit their time and interests
  • Receive full training and ongoing support
  • Join a friendly and welcoming volunteer team

Why volunteer with Scouts?

Volunteers often say they gain just as much as they give. Volunteering with Scouts offers:

  • A chance to make a positive difference locally
  • New skills and experiences
  • Opportunities to meet new people
  • A sense of achievement and community

Every role helps create great experiences for young people.
